A single mother tries to run the world’s most haunted hotel with her ghost brother, two kids, a demon trapped in a little boy’s body, and an ever growing collection of ghosts, monsters, and supernatural disasters. Haunted Hotel features the voices of Will Forte (Nathan), Eliza Coupe (Katherine), Skyler Gisondo (Ben), Natalie Palamides (Esther) and Jimmi Simpson (Abaddon). The series is created by Matt Roller (Rick and Morty) and executive produced by Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, Steve Levy and Roller. Titmouse is the show’s animation studio, with Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio and Ben Kalina also acting as executive producers. Haunted Hotel was one of the great animated delights of 2025.
Season one had an absolute hall bringing the mortal everyday into chaotically hilarious contact with the supernatural who turned out to be, particularly in the case of Abaddon, the demon trapped in a child’s body, wonderfully and entertainingly inept, and perhaps more human than they’d like to admit.
It’s not a perfect show but as I said in my concluding paragraph in my review of the first season, it has more going for it than it doesn’t and it’s well worth your time:
Does Haunted Hotel always succeed in the way some of its peers do with complex, consummate ease? Not necessarily but it hits the mark more often than it doesn’t, offers up an ensemble cast of very strange ghostly characters and some off-the-wall storylines, all while reminding us that no matter what we face, and Katherine, Ben, Esther, Nathan, and yes, even Abaddon, face a LOT, that we can count of family to save the day even if they don’t always mail it quite the way we want them to.
Colour me happy that the advent of a second season caught my completely by surprise, a delicious rarity in today’s hype-saturated digital age, and I can’t wait for all the fun of Haunted Hotel season two when it drops on Netflix on 9 October.
