Things change so fast in your teenage years that it’s easy to feel like all kinds of things aren’t real or true.
But parents? Surely they are a universal constant?
Not so in Sonny’s world where a car accident sees him thrust back into a world where his mum does not feel like the real deal and he has to deal with the fact that the thing he was most sure about in his life and which he loved is suddenly not so certain.
It’s freaky and scary but I like the way Phony is tackling it; it will be interesting to see if it is simply a coming of age PTSD issue or maybe there’s something a bit more magically real going on? Looks like a sweetly funny and meaningful watch.
Phony premieres on 20 October on Hulu/Disney+
