Whoosh!
Movie posters are on the move, quite literally, with Paramount leading the way with a, dare I say, futuristic – a wonky term at the best of times since if something doesn’t happen right now or in the past, it is by definition “futuristic” but I am going to use it in a “gee whiz ma, look a flying car!” kind of way – poster for Star Trek: Into Darkness, which arrives on the big screen on 17 May this year.
With a menacing voiceover by Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison, who may in reality be Khan, or Gary Mitchell, or that kid who used to steal your lunch money and is still an angry social misfit (till the movie opens it is all rampant speculation), and who could give James Earl Jones a run for his money as the voice of Darth Vader, it builds piece by piece into the already-revealed poster.
I am mightily impressed.
I didn’t think you could do much with the humble movie poster – apart from make sure it has an innovative, eye-catching design, and a non-derivative, imaginative tagline, but Paramount have proved me wrong.
I duly acknowledge this as the poster of the year (so far).
