CHOMP! Silliest movie of the year award goes to “Sharknado”

SNAPSHOT
When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace. And when the high-speed winds form tornadoes in the desert, nature’s deadliest killer rules water, land, and air.

Right, so you’re probably thinking it’s waaaay too early to be awarding the title of “Silliest Movie of the Year”.

Well, with the greatest of respect, may I simply say you are wrong.

Very, very, VERY wrong.

For unto us has been given Sharknado, a movie that is, thematically at least, a sequel to 2010’s Sharktopus, and 2011’s Dinoshark, part of what I like to call The Island of Dr Moreau terror sub-genre.

Simply put, it’s sharks, all kinds of man-eating sharks, EVERYWHERE.

Full points at least to syfy, tongue I am sure very firmly in cheek (please television gods let that be the case), for this astoundingly over the top feat of imagination, but it is still the Silliest Movie of the Year by a long shot (although I have yet to see Pacific Rim so that may change).

Sharknado premieres in all its aerial, limb-severing glory on syfy at 9pm on July 11, 2013.

UPDATE 19 July 2013
Such was the pop culture lovin’ for Sharknado that syfy have already greenlit a sequel. This time the prehistoric predators take a bite out of New York City. You can check out all the details here.
