SNAPSHOT
Disney and Pixar’s Elemental is an all-new, original feature film set in Element City, where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. Element City is inspired by big cities around the globe, embracing theorized contributions from each elemental community: giant pine-tree-like buildings and waterfall skyscrapers to a tornado-shaped arena called Cyclone Stadium. Elemental is directed by acclaimed animation filmmaker Peter Sohn, director of the feature The Good Dinosaur previously, plus the short Partly Cloudy, as well as work at Pixar as story consultant and production artist for many years. The screenplay credits for the movie are not finalized yet. It’s produced by Denise Ream and Pete Docter. (courtesy First Showing)
What’s better than a Pixar film?
Watching characters fall in love in a Pixar film, and if that is entirely your animated rom-com jam, and you’ve been pining for some love, true love since Wall-E, then you’re in luck because Elemental is soon coming your way and it looks absolutely swoon-worthy wonderful.
But like any course of true love, things are not going to run smooth and that could be because elements aren’t supposed to mix, and yet, when fiery Ember meets watery Wade – the names are simultaneously obvious and yet hilariously charming and I am totally here for them – that’s exactly what their hearts will demand happens.
Honestly, this film looks like perfect Pixar fare – lots of stunningly vivid animation, a tremendous amount of heart and messaging that encourages us to burst those expectations because when you do, well, good things are bound to happen.
Just how good? We find out when Elemental opens in Australia on 15 June 2023 and US on 16 June.
And here, without further ado, are the character posters for the three other main characters which will just blow you away … you dig it?
