I will be the first to admit I race through life at likely too great a speed.

Yes, carpe diem and life is short and all that, philosophies I have clearly taken to heart as I try to do EVERYTHING, usually all at once, but there is something to be said for being patient and enjoying life on a quieter, more reflective basis.

That’s the basis of The Soup, a delightful short film by John Torres, set to a Pixar-like track called “Patiently Waiting” by Kyle Cox, which focuses on a robotic farmer who waits with admirable patience for his vegetables to grow so he can then make some sustaining soup (of course, he likely can’t eat it, but then that’s not the point, really, is it?).

In its short but beautifully and poignantly-packed 1 3/4 minutes, The Soup reminds us to take the time to let things develop and grow, to sit back and enjoy the journey since you will reach the destination soon enough.

If there was ever a short film I needed to see, it’s one, coming as it does with affectingly necessary messaging, a gorgeously meditative and comforting soundtrack and a character who is, being robotic aside, all the things I’d like to be.
