There’s not a lot of fun to be had when you’re nursing someone suffering from a terminal illness.
But as my siblings and I, especially my selfless sister Rachel looked after my gorgeous Mum in her final days, one of the great rays of happy delight (apart from time with Mum, which was precious, and special family bonding) was Nailed It!, a Netflix show that we watched episode after episode of, each a reassurance that life does goes on and it’s pleasingly unable to be perfect.
In fact, so imperfect is it that an entire show has been devoted to showcasing how badly some people can bake; the interesting thing for a show with this focus is that it’s actually kind of sweet (often literally but emotionally too with the contestants made fun of for comedy purposes but never reviled).
Having a Christmas episode of this show will be just the tonic I need to recover from my mother’s death, a small step towards life getting a little bit more normal … and full of hilariously festive misshapen cakes.
