Well that didn’t quite go to plan now did it?
When last we saw Dr. Cassandra “Cassie” Railly (Amanda Schull) and James Cole (Aaron Stanford) – SPOILER ALERT! – the central characters of 12 Monkeys (based on Terry Gilliam’s excellent movie of the same name), they were separated by almost 30 years of time with Cassie in the destroyed remnants of 2043 and Cole in an alive and beating 2015.

As season 2, with the race to save the future still very much in play, we find the team changing their base of operations changing from the bookstore which is no more – damn you time paradoxes and your unfathomably complex consequences! – to a hotel suite, packed full of clues and hints that the team has left behind from adventures they have yet to take (and have already taken … and yeah my brain hurts too; but damn it’s good the way the writers present it all.)
A video released by syfy, which features the case discussing what’s coming up, in a totally non-spoilery way of course as Three If By Space outlines:
“… the cast discuss the changes to their characters and how the dynamic is both flipped on its head and all mixed up. Alliances are formed that you’d never expect, people assume unexpected roles, and we’ll be getting more of Jennifer Goines and Deacon, both played to excellence by the fantastic Emily Hampshire and Todd Stashwick. We’re also going to see new sides to Cassie, Cole, and Ramse, who are incredibly compelling characters thanks to the talents of Amanda Schull, Aaron Stanford, and Kirk Acevedo.”

What we can also expect is taut, clever writing, gripping, well thought-out narratives and characters who are willing to do what they must to ensure humanity has a future.
Thankfully you don’t have to wait too long into the future with 12 Monkeys season 2 premiering on 18 April on Showcase.
