When their work commute is interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic shutdowns, Emily and Ryan (starring Phoebe Tonkin & Brenton Thwaites) reunite two years later after a series of brief flirtatious interactions. Ryan proposes an idea – to go on a series of eight dates to decide if they are truly right for each other, facing both personal challenges and differing views while finding true connection. Two Years Later is a streaming series created and written by Australian screenwriter Pete Bridges, who also wrote this year’s Deep Water movie. COVID interrupts lots of things; among them was a flirtatious serious of commuting moments between two people who, it turns out, were the highlights of each other’s days.
So, they set out to see if romance exists beyond the confines of a time-limited commute and the result is Two Years Later which looks like the just the sort of post-pandemic romcom we need to see.
There’s flirting, real dating, love struck wonder and car crash fury – in other words, everything you’d want from a modern romcom that very much exists in the real world.
Two Years Later debuts on Paramount+ Australia on 4 June.
