đźš— Inspired by the Mattel toys, Matchbox the Movie is an action-packed, globe-trotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (John Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world. Matchbox the Movie is directed by veteran stuntman / filmmaker filmmaker Sam Hargrave, director of all three Extraction films and The Last Frontier series previously, plus lots of stunt work on many big Hollywood movies like Deadpool 2 & Avengers: Endgame. OMG this looks like FUN!
I loved playing with Matchbox cars as a kid and while I am fairly certain most of the kids of my vintage did not become spies when we grew up, we certainly imagined we were when we were playing.
So, at least in that respect, this movie checks out.
Does it looks like big, noisy, epic blockbuster fun? Absolutely it does, but that half the fun of going to the movies (even if, in this case, it’s a virtual streaming-based one).
I can’t wait to give my inner kid some high-octane fun, vey funny action when Matchbox: the Movie starts streaming on AppleTV from 9 October.
