Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When she discovers an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.” The Marvels is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Nia DaCosta, director of the films Little Woods and Candyman previously, plus episodes of the Top Boy series. The screenplay is written by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. Based on the characters created by Gene Colan and Roy Thomas for Marvel Comics. Produced by Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios. (courtesy First Showing)

Can I be honest?

Actually it’s my blog so honest I shall be – I am kind of over superhero movies.

Yep, there I said it; some of them like the recent Guardians of the Galaxy and Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings, and even Shazam: Fury of the Gods, have been delightfully one-of-a-kind and make turning up to watching some maniacal evil person do terrible things and not succeed because #SUPERHERO/ES something that will a little bit invigorating and fun.

But most of these films seem to be following the same tired template and frankly, having something that’s a little bit of a twist and which has some humour thrown adroitly into the mix feels different enough that the idea of watching The Marvels feel like an enticing prospect.

Time will tell if that’s the case but based on this entertaining trailer that seems like an reasonable assumption to make.

The Marvels opens in cinemas on 9 November in Australia and in UK and USA on 10 November.
