SNAPSHOT
A spin-off from the series The Mandalorian, taking place in the same timeframe as that series and its other interconnected spin-offs after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). Rosario Dawson stars as Ahsoka Tano, reprising her role from The Mandalorian. The character was created for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (voiced by Ashley Eckstein), and made her live-action debut in the second season of The Mandalorian. Ahsoka is a Lucasfilm / Disney+ series created by Dave Filoni, developed by Filoni and Jon Favreau. The series is also written by Dave Filoni, who is also directing multiple episodes, including the first, with Peter Ramsey also directing at least one episode. Executive producer by Carrie Beck, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Kathleen Kennedy. Made by Lucasfilm, filmed in Los Angeles under the working title Stormcrow, with Eric Steelberg and Quyen Tran as cinematographers. (courtesy First Showing)

Dubbing something as a “spin-off”, which Ahsoka manifestly is, carries the connotation for some people that the series under consideration is less-than, a pale imitation of the show that came before it.

But in the case of Ahsoka, who has already found vibrant life in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, being a spin-off of something as finely and beautifully crafted as The Mandalorian denotes that it is something that marks it is something that will be eminently worth watching.

Granted that might not necessarily hold since The Book of Boba Fett, while entertaining, didn’t fully premise on its initial promise but the trailers and TV spots released so far, including this one, suggest a show that will be fill of action but also thoughtfully emotionally resonant too.

If that is the case, and indications are so far it will, we will be in for some more well-delivered storytelling from a franchise that might’ve have been drawn from a long, long time ago but which looks like enduring well into a galactically rich future.

Ahsoka begins streaming on Disney+ on 23 August.
