It appears you can’t move for shapeshifters at the moment on streaming shows.

It used to be zombies, and in some ways still is, but thanks to Picard (season 3), and now the Nick Fury-centric Secret Invasion, humanity is under threat from beings who can morph into anyone of us.

It’s a scary idea, having evil hiding inside a face we know and trust and that’s why this type of narrative is so powerful because it unnerves us and punches through the idea we have that we can trust those we have come to know and love.

Which is true, but if those people aren’t those people anymore?

Then all bets are off, and we have to fight against our now-trashed notions of safety and surety for the truth of who we are.

It’s a mighty battle and one that will likely make Secret Invasion compulsively watchable storytelling.

Secret Invasion begins streaming on Disney+ on 21 June.
