A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin). Like many films with the gross misfortune to be scheduled for release during the COVID pandemic, Dune has experienced an epic of number of release date reschedulings from 20 November, 2020 t0 18 December 2020 to 1 October and then 22 October.

It’s been quite the journey for the first half of the eagerly anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic 1965 novel which has been split into two so that the events of the story can be covered in all their glory.

The irony of all those moves, at least in the Australian context, is that we are currently undergoing a Delta Strain-induced resurgence of the virus which is imperilling many a release.

We can only hope that come the release date that we will be relatively free and clear and can go to a cinema and see what looks an absolutely epic film in all its cinematic glory.

In the meantime, while we wait there are 14 character posters and a brand spanking new trailer, whetting our appetite for the massive appetite that will hopefully soon follow.

Dune finally opens on 21 October 2021 in Australia and 22 October in UK and USA.
